2009 Brownsea Island Swim

The 2009 Brownsea Island Swim was a great race as usual and brilliantly organised by RLSS Poole Lifeguards. On behalf of the Club and 156 entrants, we would like to thank Mark Shakles, his support team and safety crew. We are very lucky to have such a terrific swim so close to our base.

East Dorset Open Water Club swimmers featured strongly in the full distance non-wetsuit and wetsuit categories. Danni Callahan came third in the non-wetsuit category (1.39.24) and Tasha Morey first in wetsuit (1.29.52).

Many members contributed to the Roy Harding Swim Award and it was presented at the Brownsea swim because the event was one of Roy’s favourites. The award was for non wetsuit (as that is how Roy swam), full distance, fastest local Hants / Dorset swimmer over 40, as up til now, the Brownsea swim did not have any category for veteran swimmers. We made an allowance of 8 minutes between the men’s and ladies’ time to make it as fair as possible. Ann Richardson was delighted to be able to present the award this year to Stuart Purcell.
