Matt Smith reports on a strong showing in the 2016 Brownsea Swim by EDOWSC members following on from a summer of outstanding Channel Achievements.
In challenging conditions 29 EDOWSC swimmers finished the race.
Highlights were Marc Newman coming 3rd in the Mens Non-Wetsuit full distance swim and Ali Budynkiewicz winning the Ladies Non-Wetsuit half distance swim – a great effort from Marc and Ali. And four EDOWSC men, aged 70 years young or over, stormed around the full distance swim – Robert-Guy Smith, Bob Holman, Johnty Edwards and Clive Grant. Gents we salute you! I am sure everyone particularly enjoyed the sizeable standing waves between the old chain ferry and Pottery Pier. These enabled all swimmers to enjoy moments of simulated drowning, but nothing worthwhile is easy!
Thanks go out to Mark Shakles (pictured briefing the half-distance swimmers) and the team for putting on another memorable Brownsea swim and all the EDOWSC volunteers that helped at the event.
On top of that Dave Doust was up North competing in the Coniston End to End Swim, and yes it was grim up there. Apparently it was pouring with rain and cloudy with very poor visibility. Dave finished the 8.5km swim in 2h 37m coming 94th out of 700 and 2nd in his age group, losing by one minute. A sterling effort.
