Are you ready for some Lido Love?

7pm-8.30pm, Saturday 9 January 2010 – London Fields Lido, E8 3EU.

Since re-opening after an 18-year hiatus in 2006, London Fields lido has become one of Hackney’s favourite recreational spots, a magnet for sun-worshippers in the summer and a reliable resource for serious swimmers in the cooler months.

In celebration of its success, there will be an evening of all things Lido-related on Saturday. Organised by local art curator Adriana Marques, the event will look at the history of the lido, and of open-air pools in general, and will feature films (including one effort by Tracey Emin), a live band, and a magician, plus a selection of seasonally warm treats from the cafe.

Despite the occasional success story like London Fields, there are still numerous pools and lidos that remain closed after the swingeing cuts in the 1980s, or face an uncertain future. Derelict London has documented many of them.

Lido Love – Tickets cost £5.
