Mark Perry, British Swimming Open Water Performance Manager commented, “I am extremely excited by the prospect of having our experienced open water swimmers race established pool distance swimmers. This can only make the sport more competitive and hopefully we will discover some new talent. I’m also delighted with the decision to integrate open water in the Youth Championships, with the points scored by Youth swimmers counting towards the Top Club award at the pool based National Youth Championships.”

Nick Sellwood, ASA Head of Talent Development says, “The staging of both Open Water and pool ASA Age Group & Youth Championships, in close proximity provides the opportunity for talented athletes to compete in both events whilst they are tapered and rested.
