British Gas Great North Swim 2010 cancelled

Following the postponement of the British Gas Great North Swim at the weekend, the organisers are extremely disappointed that it will not be possible to stage the event in 2010.

They had hoped to stage the event this weekend but there are signs posted up by the Environment Agency, South Lakeland District Council and the Health Protection Agency at various locations on the shores of Windermere warning of toxic algae and therefore reluctantly been left with no choice but to cancel the event.

Having looked at the available data, with the water and air temperatures likely to drop significantly in the next few weeks, the Team felt there was too much doubt associated with any decision to stage the event any later in the calendar and would clearly not want to have to cancel the event again.

British Gas Great North Swim team added “We understand that you will be extremely disappointed with the decision but the welfare of our participants is our number one priority and we would never compromise your safety or well being.
