Unfortunately it has been necessary to postpone the British Gas Great North Swim, which was due to be staged on Saturday and Sunday September 4th and 5th at Windermere.
Update from Great North Swim team at: 18:00 Thursday 2 September 2010:
“This is due to prevalence of blue-green algae and the impact that this may have on your safety in the water.
“This decision was taken by the Event Safety Group in the interests of safety of swimmers after further stringent water quality checks were completed.
“We are looking at a potential new 2010 date for the Great North Swim and will let you know by email on or before Tuesday 7th September. In this email we will also provide further details about the options that will be available to you, which will include: full refund of entry fee, taking part on a new date in 2010 should we be able to announce one, or deferring your entry to 2011.
“We realize that the postponement will affect many people, but the safety of all swimmers has to be our number one priority at all times.
“Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.”
