British Gas ITC Loughborough swimmer Daniel Fogg will compete for Team GB in the men’s open water 10km marathon swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Fogg, 24, was already selected to Team GB back in March to compete in the 1500m event in the Aquatics Centre. He has now secured Team GB’s sole place in the men’s open water event which will take place on 10th August in Hyde Park. Fogg finished 16th in the 10km marathon at the 2011 World Championships.
On his selection to the Open Water event, Daniel Fogg said:“I am really happy to have been selected for my second event at the Games. I’m back into hard training after recovering from the FINA Open Water event in Portugal and have been focusing on my first event, the 1500m.
“I’ll now sit down with my coach to look at the strategy for the open water event too which is a week after the pool swim. It’s fantastic to get to race in both events.”
Mark Perry, British Swimming Development and Open Water Coach said: “It is great to have Dan on the Open Water team for the Olympic Games.
“Dan showed fantastic form at the British Gas Swimming Championships in March, winning the 1500m in a new English record and was the highest placed finisher at the FINA Open Water event in Portugal last week.
“I look forward to working with Dan and his coach, in the run up to the Games.”
