Dragon Open Water Swim 2011

A new national open water swimming event that could lead to Commonwealth Games qualification, and brings major international swimming championships to Wales, will be held in Swansea later this year.

Swim Wales, the governing body in Wales, has announced its first official open water swimming competition will be held off the Mumbles coastline on Saturday 6 August 2011.

With the possibility that open water swimming will be added to the events list for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the annual Dragon Open Water Swim will become the qualification race for Welsh athletes, as well as providing opportunity for mass participation.

Entry to race the 1500 metre race will be open to the general public, including those aged 14 and above, and also forms part of the Wales Swim series of events taking place in 2011.
