Enter the Great Scottish Swim

Those wishing to make a splash this month are being urged to sign up now for the Great Scottish Swim, a one mile open water challenge at Strathclyde Country Park, North Lanarkshire.

As hundreds of swimmers of all abilities prepare to take the plunge on Saturday 29 August 2009, the inaugural event is guaranteed to make waves. Those wishing to enter can do so at www.greatswim.org

strathThe Great Scottish Swim is open to those of all abilities, from world champions, club swimmers and fun swimmers who want a new challenge to those who want to get fit whilst raising money for charity.

The swim is the latest event to take place in the Great Swim – a new series of one mile mass participation events taking place in the UK throughout the year. The event, which will be broadcast both within the UK and internationally, has been secured through a partnership between EventScotland and North Lanarkshire Council.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland, the national events agency, said: “Mass participation events play an important role in Scotland’s sporting calendar and, as the first event of its kind to take place in Scotland, the Great Scottish Swim is guaranteed to raise the profile of swimming in Scotland.

“Hundreds of people from across the UK and beyond have already signed up to take the plunge and we would urge all those interested in taking part at the end of August to enter now .”
