Channel Relay Team Success in 2008

Six members of East Dorset Open Water Swimming Club, aged 14 to 46, successfully swum the English Channel in relay to raise money for charity.

Channel Relay 2008

Having experienced delays for several days due to adverse wind and weather conditions, the team finally set off at 2am on 6 August 2008. Each member swam for an hour until the team reached France. Under Channel swimming rules, swimmers wore a standard costume, hat and goggles.

The team took 12 hrs 03 mins to achieve their goal. Pictured below are Mark Vides, of Bournemouth, Danni Callahan and Barry Alldrick, from Poole, Rebecca Christian-Drage, of Cerne Abbas, Jennie Boyt and Sarah Day, from East Lulworth with Bob Holman of Affpuddle, as manager and reserve swimmer,

The Rett Syndrome Association and The Marine Conservation Society will benefit, hopefully to the tune of £2,000. Poole Sports Council and Poole Rotary Club are amongst those organisations already supporting the event.
