Making a Splash

Lido life in Cirencester is celebrated in a new exhibition of watercolours and drawings by artist Alan Brassington. Making a Splash features paintings and sketches of Cirencester’s open air swimming pool at the Dollar Street Gallery.

Alan visited the pool when he moved to Cirencester in 1996 and decided to record its daily life with a series of drawings. The atmosphere would change according to the time of day and he would record the hour on each sketch.

Early mornings would be quiet with serious swimmers getting their exercise, warming up during the morning and by the afternoon frenzied activity of all ages from children to the elderly.

Alan said: “This series of work is very close to my heart and I have saved it until now.”

Alan is an internationally recognised artist who is known for his near life-size oils of horses.

The exhibition runs throughout the summer until 4 September 2010.
