National Masters conference 2014

All ASA Masters swimmers are invited to join newly appointed ASA Masters Officer Sharon Lock at a conference in Loughborough on Saturday 1 November 2014.

The conference is free of charge and features guest speakers, workshops and an open forum to provide an opportunity to discuss issues affecting Masters swimming with the ASA Technical Committee.

This will allow the ASA to look at ways in which to harness your knowledge, skills and passion for the sport and use these to build a dynamic and vibrant Masters infrastructure.

The conference will run from 9:30 to 4:30 and will consist of both morning and afternoon sessions, with a break in between in which lunch and refreshments will be provided. A detailed programme will be released in September, but the day will be structured as:

Morning Session

  • Welcome & Introduction to day
  • Guest Speaker: Steve Bratt (Otters Head Coach)
  • Guest Speaker: Jane Asher (via video)
  • Open Forum with an opportunity to Discuss issues relating to Masters with the Committee and ASA Professional Staff

Afternoon Session

  • Breakout Sessions and Workshops
  • Where do we go from here and building momentum
  • The afternoon will be concentrated around focus groups and will give you the opportunity to have your say about the future of Masters, and help to help make that future a reality!

Workshops / focus groups will include

  • Meet management – Looking at the way competitions are run and what systems are needed to maximise efficiency.
  • Masters coaching – Discussing how much Masters coaching is available and what is needed to improve the Masters coaching opportunities, training and provision.
  • National Masters Identity – Looking at the current Masters image and how we can galvanise GB masters ready for London Europeans in 2016.
