Do you want to officiate at events in the open air, rather than in a steamy swimming pool? Well you can enjoy the benefits of sun, sea and sand whilst judging a swimming event!
Since being added to the Olympic events, open water swimming has become increasingly popular with more events being held in all areas of the country. Some mass participation events are now attracting many thousands of entrants.
Open Water swimming like other disciplines needs officials to ensure events run smoothly and safely so the ASA has a programme to develop officials to perform at county, regional and national events throughout the summer season.
ASA SW Region are running development courses for existing and new officials during the 2016 season:
Saturday 28 May 2016 – Cheddar Pool, classroom and pool sessions
Saturday 4 June 2016 – Weymouth, practical sessions on beach and boat. Learn about officiating at Open Water events, update on rules from the 2013 FINA Congress. Practical experience in boats and with swimmers. Plus “ Spot the Foul”.
Then officiate at:
The South West Region Open Water Championships on Saturday 25 June 2016 (new date) at Preston Beach, Weymouth
British Swimming Open Water Level 1 and Level 2 qualification courses can also be arranged to meet demand.
Please download ASA SW Region Open Water Recruitment Campaign flyer for circulation in your networks and to find out more about what open water officials do. Note the change of date of the SW Regional and County Championships from Sunday 26 to Saturday 25 June 2016.
