Team GB Marathon Swimmer Keri-anne Payne finished seventh (1:57:23.9) in the Women’s 10km race which took place just off the Copacabana beach in Rio.
At the halfway stage of the race she was placed 19th and managed to work her way through the field finding herself in 13th at the end of the third lap with 7.5km of the course completed.
With just metres to go Payne was placed eighth and that’s where she touched home, however following the disqualification of Aurelie Muller at the finish she was awarded seventh.
Sharon Van Rouwendaal (NED, 1:56:32.1) broke away from the pack over the last 2500m to win gold. Rachele Bruni (ITA, 1:56:49.5) and Poliana Okimoto (BRA, 1:56:51.4) were awarded silver and bronze.
