Safety Workshop and First Aid Course

Representatives of BLDSA affilliated clubs have been invited to the following two events:-

Safety Workshop

10 March 2012 (3-5pm) – Langdale Chase Hotel, Windermere (Dinner Weekend)

As with previous years, this is an opportunity for all swim secretaries and officials, and anybody else who is interested, to pick up this year’s new safety documentation, discuss changes with members of the safety committee, give feedback and support each other. Members of the safety committee will be on hand to answer any questions you have, either generally or in relation to your own event. Attendance is strongly recommended, to confirm attendance please email me but also feel free to just drop in on the day!

First Aid Course

31 March 2012 (10am-4pm) – Rawthorpe High School, Huddersfield

This course is for anybody who is interested in first aid at open water swimming events – whether you already have a first aid certificate and would like some extra practice, or whether you’ve never done it before. It will cover:-

  • Hypothermia
  • Drowning
  • Bites/stings
  • Resuscitation (including use of defibrillator)
  • Incident management in open water
  • Use of BLDSA first aid equipment
  • General first aid topics (e.g. minor injuries, burns, fractures, strains/sprains)
  • Any other areas which you are interested in

It is open to all BLDSA and affiliated club members who are interested in officiating at events. To reserve a free place please email John Wilson, BLDSA Safety Officer as soon as possible.

Please note that there will be an expectation that following successful completion of this course, you will be available to help with first aid at BLDSA and/or affiliated club events, initially in a supportive rather than lead role for those who have not done so before.

Please contact John Wilson to book places (or for the safety workshop, just turn up on the day).

John Wilson, BLDSA Safety Officer (john24601@gmail.com)
