The swim, which attracted over 2,200 swimmers of all ages and abilities, will be repeated on Channel 4 at 8.00am. Competitors swam the one-mile course in Lake Windermere on Saturday 14th September, against the scenic background of the Lake District National Park.

Britain’s Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne also took part as she battled it out for honours in the women’s race. The competition also saw Britain’s Alan Bircher, who has had a six-year career in Open Water and now wants to now fulfil a career in coaching, swim his final open water race.

  1. Thanks John. Without this article I would have missed the TV programme. I really enjoyed it. Do we need to enter a team next year??? Gerry.

  2. I understand that more ‘Great Swims’ are being planned for 2009 and it sounds like a great opportunity for open water swimmers and triathletes alike. As soon as I have more details, we will publish locations.
