WAtoday Rottnest Channel Swim 2009

Over 2300 swimmers took part in the solo, duo and 4-person team races which started from Cottesloe Beach, headed towards Rottnest Island off Fremantle in Western Australia, finishing at Thomson Bay over 4 hours later. Around 1,000 paddlers, 750 escort boat pilots and 5,500 crew supported the event.

Last year’s runner up, David Cox, 25, had prepared for the 19.2 km race by swimming up to 80 km a week and was first solo swimmer home in 04:40:44. First woman across the line was Jaime Bowler in 04:56:18.
